The Borders Gliding club has been present in the Wooler area since 1969. The Club flies from the site of an old WWII grassy airfield at Milfield. It has recently moved into modern premises whose facilities allow access for people with disabilities.
The aim of the club is to offer good soaring for glider pilots, and the nearby Cheviot hills allow flying all year round. The Cheviots generate ideal weather conditions that allow pilots to soar to heights of 26,000 feet, and stay airborne for over five hours at a time.
Air Experience flights are available to try out gliding first hand. You may be allowed to take control under the experienced eye of a fully qualified instructor. Such handing over of control is at the instructor's discretion.
The Club includes a modern, well equipped clubhouse, two modern, 2-seat training gliders, a motorised glider, two towing aircraft and a team of British Gliding Association qualified instructors. The Club operates every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year, as well as full flying weeks several times of the year.
The club has accommodation available - four twin rooms at £5.00 per person per night, includes access to the
kitchen and showers etc. There are also some facilities for touring caravans and camping. Please contact the Centre for further details on the available facilities and the prices involved.
