Alba Ballooning is based in Edinburgh. It is the northernmost based hot ballooning company in Britain. Balloon flights are above Edinburgh, the picturesque Lothian and northern Scottish Borders countryside, or over the scenic region of Fife and Kinrosshire.
The company operates from mid march through to late October. Flights most often take place a few hours after sunrise or a few hours before sunset. The atmosphere tends to be more stable and suited to hot air ballooning at such times.
Hot Air Ballooning - Alba
The Midlothian launch sites include Bush House, Arniston House, Penicuik and Mount Lothian. The Borders launch sites include West Linton, Eddleston and Peebles. You will journey over the Moorfoot or Pentland Hills or over Midlothian's rural landscape with its picturesque villages, castles and reservoirs.
Around three hundred and fifty flights are scheduled in the year. Weather conditions are crucial to safe trips and Alba Ballooning may only be able to fly around eighty of them. You may have to make several bookings before being able to enjoy a trip. Patience and perseverance may be required.
Opening Times
Mid march until mid October. As flights are dependent on weather conditions, you are advised to contact the company on the day of the planned flight for times.

Your flight will last around an hour. You will be flown in either the 9 or 12 passenger balloon. The basket is divided into two or three person compartments for your comfort and safety, which will also give you a feeling of security.
You will be involved with the full ballooning experience and learn about the assembly, inflation and packing away. After packing away, you will celebrate your flight in traditional style with a glass or two of champagne. A commemorative certificate will be awarded to everyone. You are then ferried back to the meeting location to return on Alba's own transport, or alternatively, you may be picked up by friends or family, who are welcome to track you across the sky, roads permitting.
