The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is Glasgow's premier museum and art gallery. It houses one of Europe's great civic art collections.
The museum is the most visited museum in the United Kingdom, excepting London. It is located on Argyle Street in the West End of the city.
The museum's collections originated mainly from the McLellan Galleries and the old Kelvingrove House Museum in Kelvingrove Park. It has one of the finest collections of armour and arms in the world and an impressive natural history collection.
Lower Ground Floor
The main public entrance is on the lower ground floor. The floor features the Campbell Hunter Foundation education wing, the conference room, the café, restaurant and shop.
Ground Floor
The centre hall features the Mini Museum for under 5's with many hands-on exhibitions. Other features on the floor include the Art Discovery Centre and the Environment Discovery Centre which feature hands-on displays. The galleries on the ground floor are Creatures of the Past, Glasgow Stories, Ancient Egypt, and Scotland’s Art and Scottish Wildlife.
The First Floor
The first floor is home to the multimedia Object Cinema, the History Discovery Centre, and the Study Centre. The or galleries cover the following subjects - Conflict & Consequence, Cultural Survival, Italian Art, French Art, Dutch Art, La Faruk Madonna, Every Picture Tells a Story, Scotland’s First People, and Scottish Identity in Art, Glasgow and the World.
Guided tours are available, and please book beforehand for group tours. Guide and Assistance dogs are welcome. A pram park is located beside the under 5's Mini Museum. There are three shops in Kelvingrove where you may buy a wide range of souvenirs, publications and gifts. There is full wheelchair access. Wheelchairs are available.
