Deep Sea World is located in North Queensferry, Fife. As one of the largest aquariums in the UK, it provides excellent family fun. It was opened in 1993 and offers an impressive number of sea creatures to see.
The Underwater Tunnel
The tunnel is almost four hundred feet long and holds one million gallons of water. It is one of the longest underwater tunnels in the world. The curvature of the acrylic makes everything appear around 30% smaller than it actually is. The arch design of the tunnel gives it the strength it needs to support the massive amount of water. The acrylic can withstand the weight of two African elephants, and is the same material that NASA used in the space shuttles.

Queensferry Deep Sea World
Deep Sea World has two seal pools. The first pool houses the resident seals, while pool two houses injured and rescued seal pups brought to the centre by the SSPCA. The pups are usually grey or harbour seals. The facilities are able to house up to ten seal pups. They will stay at the centre for around one to two months, during which time they will gain the weight needed prior to being released.
The Rock Pools
Deep Sea World provides an insight into the many varieties of sea creatures that live around the British coastline. The rocky shoreline is a tough environment for the sea creatures to survive in. They must withstand the rain, strong winds and battering waves.
The centre's experienced presenters will provide visitors with a fascinating insight into the crabs, small sharks and starfish that live in the three rock pools. They will show the camouflage the creatures need in order to stay safe from predators.
