Brenfield Farm is the home of Argyll Trail Riding and Castle Riding Centre. It was established over twenty-five years ago by Tove Gray-Stephens. Tove is assisted by her son David Hay-Thorburn in managing the riding centre and trails.
The Brenfield Centre is well situated for varied and interesting short rides around the hills and forests beside the village of Ardrishaig. The beauty of the unspoiled highland landscapes, lochs and rivers, sandy beaches and heather-clad hills will enhance your trail-riding experience.
The Brentfield Centre caters for all ages and riding abilities. Effort is made to try and ensure that riders of similar standards go out together to get the best possible experience. You can enjoy a gentle ride beside the magnificent scenery by Loch Fyne and the surrounding hills. The Brentfield Centre offers a 1½ hour ride of around four to five miles along farm tracks and forestry roads.
If you would prefer a faster paced and longer ride, you can enjoy a 1½ to 2 hour ride for the more experienced rider. You will experience off-road riding, cross country, and perhaps a small jump.
The Brenfield pub ride/beach gallop is a ride for the experienced rider who is in control at all paces. It is a full day ride starting at around 10am and ending at around 4.30pm to 5pm. The trail takes you over the hills above Brenfield and Ardrishaig to the beach at Lochgilphead.
A fast canter over the sands takes you to the water's edge and into the sea. As the water deepens, the horses launch out into a swim, heading for the Ardrishaig shore. Once landed, you go to the local pub for lunch. The horses will be watered and fed in the carpark. After lunch you head back to the hills and Brenfield Centre.
The Brenfield Centre offers longer rides lasting up to a week. You will stop over at comfortable hotel accommodation each night, before starting the next stage on the following day. Please visit the Brenfileld Centre website for more information.
