Dreams

Dreams were often interpreted to suit the dreamer.  They were supposed to reveal the future and appear in mate selection customs.  If a girl picked up a root which grew beneath the mugwort plant, placed it on her pillow and slept on it, she would dream of her future husband.

Bride's cake or bannock was a prized item to dream on,  It was the christening piece given to the first person to meet the child going to its baptism.  When sleeping in a strange bed, if a ring was put on the finger and a shoe placed below the bed, which you then had to get into backwards, your loved one would appear in a dream.
